Great Plains Black History Museum HBCU Tailgate

In celebration of our 2022 feature exhibit and the Jackson State homecoming game the Great Plains Black History Museum is hosting an HBCU tailgate October 22nd in the OEDC parking lot.

We have something for everyone whether you attended an HBCU or PWI.

HBCU alum – we want you to show up and show out for your school! We’ll have tables available for school “hosts” to bring in any items you hold near and dear from your time at school. Reach out if you’re interested!

From 12 pm – 12:45 pm there will be an HBCU alumni panel for attendees (particularly high school and college students) to learn more about the HBCU experience and HBCU alumni community in Omaha. A featured dance performance by I Heartbeat Dance Studio will follow.

Starting around 1 pm is Meet the Greeks. Learn more about the Divine 9 and the community service initiatives of their local chapters. All Black Greek Letter Organizations are welcome to attend the event and tables will be available. This is also a mini kick-off for the museum’s 2023 featured exhibit highlighting the Divine 9.

Finally, at 2 pm we are kicking it! Food will be on the grill, the Jackson State homecoming game will be on the screen and folks will have the opportunity to mix and mingle. Music and more will help create the tailgate vibe.

The museum hopes to see EVERYONE (regardless of where/if you attended school) who can make it out on October 22.
