Lighting the Spark

The Omaha STEM Ecosystem’s STEM Speaker Connect Event, Lighting the Spark, will connect youth and their parents with key business industry experts, educational leaders and young adults in the STEM workforce who can help pave the way to a meaningful career in STEM. Research indicates that a spark of innovation is the primary factor that ignites students’ interest in pursuing STEM careers.

According to the Nebraska Department of Labor, Nebraska will have more than 34,000 annual openings in high-skill, high-demand, high-wage jobs in the years ahead. Many of them are in STEM fields that are critical to Nebraska’s future economic growth, and more two-thirds will require higher education.

The September 12, 5:30 p.m. event at Metropolitan Community College’s Fort Omaha Campus is open to Junior High, High School and College students in addition to young adults wanting to enter the STEM workforce. Topics include how to ignite youth passion for a career in STEM in addition to how to access free resources provided by Omaha STEM Ecosystem and its community partners. The session also will discuss efforts to create equity and access in STEM and how students and young adults can get support as they take their next step in STEM.

This Omaha STEM Ecosystem event is sponsored by Clarkson College and Metropolitan Community College. Representatives from the organizations will be on hand for interviews and to answer any questions from parents and students about STEM resources in the community.
