Q&A with President Clay Baker

Q: What is your advice to young professionals?

A: Seek out successful mentors, allow yourself to be coached even when you don’t like the message, volunteer to take on projects/tasks that others won’t and work hard to be the best at whatever you do.

Q: What makes the local small business community unique?

A: Without a doubt, it’s the people. I spent some time with a gentleman from the Upper East Coast recently who is a private equity investor. He’s originally from Omaha but hasn’t lived here for quite some time. He told me that the talent in Omaha is second to none and he loves to hire people from Omaha and invest in businesses here because of their strong work ethic and values.

Q: What excites you the most about the future of Northwest Bank?

A: There is a lot to be excited about at Northwest Bank. I’m most excited, though, about the great young leaders we’re developing and their contribution to our success. It’s so gratifying to watch someone grow and succeed. They’ll be our next generation of leaders and we’ll be in good hands when their time comes.

Q: What do you love about sponsoring 40 Under 40?

A: We love the fact that 40 Under 40 has been such a stable part of the business community for over 20 years. Of course, we love the recognition of young professionals and entrepreneurs in our community. Every year a new group is recognized and these successful individuals are all over the metro. They give so much to the community and it’s nice to play a role in giving them the recognition they deserve.
