Omaha Gratitude Summit Inaugural Event

When: October 26, 2022

Where: Scott Center

Why: Learn the science and practice of gratitude

Attendance: 350

Event Summary: On October 26, 2022, Omaha’s inaugural Gratitude Summit was held at the Scott Conference Center.  Attended by 350, an executive breakfast, afternoon Gratitude Summit event and evening gratitude workshop for university students introduced participants from the C suite to university students to the science and practice of gratitude.

Global gratitude expert, Dr. Robert A. Emmons of University of California, Davis, presented a summary of three decades of research connecting the power of gratitude with increased organizational effectiveness, productivity, and the psychological safety that fuels trust, innovation and engagement. Neuropsychologist Dr. Jeffrey Snell of QLI shared the brain science of gratitude.  Both shared research demonstrating gratitude practices with improved physical and mental health.

Participants received a “Gratitude Toolkit” including a 21-Day gratitude journal, thank-You cards and stamps, Post-its and a pen. During the Gratitude Summit event community thank-you notes were written and by Thanksgiving, nearly 2,000 thank-you cards were to be distributed to community educators, health care workers, first respondents, nonprofit team members, active and veteran military personnel and local and state leaders. Scott Scholars from UNO and Creighton University had the opportunity to integrate gratitude with the ethos of Walter Scott Jr. by engaging in a gratitude exercise: writing a personal thank-you to an individual or organization who had made a difference in their journey, and whom they’d not yet properly thanked.
